"Voyage to Galapagos"
is a 4 CD-ROM set that gives students a self-directed, project-based
opportunity to explore 10 Galapagos Islands in search of evidence
of variation, function and adaptation-- the building blocks of evolution
theory. Students will analyze the data they collect in a virtual
laboratory. In addition, they can view movies about Darwin's
own journey of discovery aboard the Beagle,
and the impact of that journey on developing his ideas.
The
English-language package is aligned with National Science Standards,
including "Teaching of Science as Inquiry", "Biological
Evolution", and "The History and Nature of Science".
It's intended for use in grades 6 -10 and includes a comprehensive
Teacher's Guide, complete with instructional guidance and additional
in-class activities. The project was made possible by a grant from
the National Science
Foundation.
