| The biggest town is Puerto Ayora and
about 12,000 people live there. Many Ecuadorians have been attracted
to the island because it has a relatively high standard of living
- although prices are high compared to the mainland - and Santa
Cruz is also the main center for tourism and scientific investigation
in the Galapagos.
There are also towns and villages as well as a number of "fincas"
or ranches in the highlands at Bellavista and Santa Rosa.
