Floreana, often known as Isla Santa Maria, was first inhabited
by humans at the beginning of the 19th century.
There are many colourful and mysterious tales of the inhabitants
in these early days, including stories of kidnapping, murder, and
disappearances galore.

Nowadays it's a much quieter place, with only about
45 residents in Puerto Velasca Ibarra, and 35 more in the highlands.
The children have a small school on the island. It's the most isolated
of all the inhabited Galapagos islands, with no airport or landing
strip and only occasional boat services from the other islands.
